PEAK Award Winner: RBO PrintLogistix
In the Nov/Dec 2019 issue of PS Magazine, we highlighted the 11 winners of PSDA’s annual PEAK Awards. Today we take a look at one of those companies — RBO PrintLogistix —and catch up with them post-win.
Keeley Companies is a fast-growing, family-owned business that is a single source for construction, infrastructure, technology and development. It prides itself on a culture of safety, education and community involvement. Keeley recently built a 56,000-square-foot headquarters for one of its businesses, ADB Companies, and needed more than 450 signs installed on 13 walls before its holiday party, which was just a few weeks away.
Keeley Companies has been a client of distributor RBO PrintLogistix since 2016. “They entrusted us with other large signage installs in the past and knew their project was in capable hands,” the company says.
RBO received art files for the signage on Nov. 28, 2018, and discovered ADB’s holiday party was scheduled for Dec. 15, 2018. RBO’s large-format department worked tirelessly to resize and produce the signs. “With a project this massive, it would normally take a full week to install,” the company says. “Because of superb project management, our install crew of 11 completed the project in just one and a half days.”
The 450 signs RBO created and installed showcased Keeley’s family of companies, its mission and its passion for the community.
With the install completed in time for ADB Companies’ holiday party, the new facility personified Keely Companies’ values. The final product and RBO’s effort delighted the client.
Nicole Kreeger, director of marketing for Keeley Companies, commented to RBO’s large-format team: “Truly, I have 100% confidence in you and your team. You have given me a very rare gift this holiday season: more sleep and less stress. I will forever be thankful! You are brilliant, and I know I am lucky to be working with you.”
Brandyn Bowman, account executive at RBO, shares a behind-the-scenes look at what it took to make this request come to life in a matter of days, plus tips for handling projects of this nature.
When the team received the project request, what was one of the first things that needed to happen?
We quickly created a game plan, starting with artwork. We then developed and produced full scale mock-ups for approval. Once mock-ups were approved, the teams were assigned to take action.
How did your game plan differ from handling a normal request, given the quick turnaround?
It took teamwork, setting expectations, planning and execution. Our team all pulled together to get the job done — whatever it took, as there was a time crunch. We worked early and stayed late to get the completed projected done.
What are your team’s tips for handling a quick job, while still delivering a quality product?
Focus on good project management with the client always in mind. We try to build a great relationship with the client with every member of the team.
Set expectations, both internally and with the client, too. Internally, the team needs to have a clear understanding of what’s expected. Work out timelines and crucial details. Communication with the client is also critical. Be up front about the challenges and tight deadlines needed for approving artwork and layouts.
Make sure the team doesn’t get stressed; if they do, then you lose focus. That’s why it’s important to have great communication, lots of detail on the project, and someone project managing the process to ensure everything is being handled properly and smoothly.
If you can handle the rush job, it really sets a good relationship with the client. Not everyone can pull off these type of projects.
No matter what, when it’s all said and done, make sure to thank your team members; they are the ones who make you look good.
What project(s) is RBO PrintLogistix looking forward to most this year?
This initial project has led to additional projects not only at Keeley, but with their clients as well. These projects are still in the works.
