Immersive Learning for Print Newbies: Print Basics Q&A
Print Basics is PSDA's custom, educational event designed to teach the fundamentals of print and print products. The course has been especially helpful for those new to print, allowing cohorts to learn together in an immersive, multi-day virtual setting. We spoke with one attendee, Ken Stank of American Solutions for Business, to learn more about his experience.
Tell us about yourself and your role at American Solutions for Business.
My name is Ken Stank and I am in sales and business development for American Solutions for Business (American). I started with American just over two years ago; prior to that, I did not work in the industry. I was previously in sales and business development for a recruiting firm in central Pennsylvania for four years. I am married and have two daughters: one is 3 and the other is 11 months old. I am a die-hard Philly Sports fan, especially the Eagles!! (FLY EAGLES, FLY!)
Why did you decide to attend Print Basics?
I decided to take the PSDA Print Basics course because print is an area that I was not well versed in and did not have any experience with. I also knew that I have a great opportunity within the print side of business with my clients, prospects and anyone that I speak to. I wanted to be able to ask the right questions and understand the lingo when speaking to anyone about print opportunities, which drove my interest for joining the class.
What were one or two things you learned from Print Basics that you’ll apply to your day-to-day work?
Something that I took away immediately was all the opportunities and types of print that we can provide. There have been opportunities with clients and prospects that I haven’t brought up because I didn't know we had the capabilities. This includes secure checks, invoices, POs, different office graphics and window clings, and some of the technology around direct mailers.
Attendees received samples of products in the mail to complement their virtual experience. Can you share more about that?
The material that I received was very beneficial to my experience in the class. It gave us a chance to touch, feel and see some of these products and capabilities available to the print industry. It made the virtual course that much better to have it. It also will be a great resource to revisit moving forward.
Anything else to share?
I would highly recommend this course to anyone that is green to print or new to the industry. After the course, I am feeling much more confident in my print knowledge, as well as now having a community that I can go to and bounce ideas, questions, or get more training from.
The next Print Basics workshop will take place virtually from August 30-September 2, 2021. Registration closes on June 30, 2021. Be sure to secure your spot today!
